Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to lead and evolve our Lakehouse Platform, focusing on Iceberg, Spark, Snowflake, and cloud storage. You will shape the technical roadmap, drive secure data access, and collaborate across analytics, ML, BI, and product teams.

You will mentor engineers, improve data quality, and optimize cost and performance at scale in a remote-first environment across the United States.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data infrastructure, or data platform engineering.
• 2+ years of technical leadership responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or comparable analytical data warehouses, including access control and cost management.
• Strong experience with Apache Iceberg, Spark, and cloud-native data lake architectures.
• Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks, including data modeling and CI/CD.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or JVM-based languages with production-grade code.
• Familiarity with Terraform or similar automation tools for managing data infrastructure.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long‑term technical roadmap for Affirms Lakehouse Platform across Iceberg, Spark, Snowflake, and cloud storage.
• Architect and implement platform capabilities that make analytical data secure, discoverable, and easy to use across teams.
• Design and operate secure, auditable data access across Snowflake and the lakehouse platform, including RBAC and data masking.
• Evolve data modeling, transformation pipelines, testing frameworks, documentation standards, and data quality practices.
• Establish best practices for lakehouse operations: schema evolution, partitioning, and observability.
• Identify and implement performance and cost optimizations across compute and storage.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure, Analytics, ML, BI, Product Engineering, and SRE to translate needs into durable architecture.
• Stay ahead of industry trends in lakehouse architectures and AI-ready data infra.
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of design rigor and continuous learning.
