Thermo Fisher Scientific in Pleasanton, CA is seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in laboratory automation and AI-enabled solutions. The role provides technical leadership for software that connects instruments, automation platforms, and workflows, enhancing reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address customer needs and shape the long-term technical roadmap.

Qualifications

Advanced proficiency in Python and TypeScript with production software delivery experience.
Experience in software for laboratory automation, robotics, or hardware-controlled systems.
Understanding of software architecture, APIs, data models and hardware abstraction.
Experience with Agile/Scrum and regulated development practices.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for instrument-control software and lab automation.
Design automation frameworks for end-to-end workflows and fault recovery.
Develop AI-enabled capabilities for troubleshooting, knowledge retrieval, and automation context.
Diagnose complex issues across software, hardware, and laboratory workflows.
Translate requirements into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
