Job summary

ID.me seeks a Staff Software Engineer for the Wallet/Authentication Platform in Mountain View, CA. You will shape the technical direction of core sign-in, registration, MFA, and account management used by millions, influencing architecture and cross-team collaboration.

You will mentor engineers, define security-focused engineering practices, and advance AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery and quality across the authentication stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated impact at a senior or staff level.
• 5+ years of experience in backend services engineering, with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical roadmap for authentication platform services, identifying systemic challenges, architectural risks, and strategic opportunities.
• Lead cross-team architectural decisions and mentor engineers across the team.
• Design and implement end-to-end authentication features—sign-in, MFA, federation, account lifecycle management—balancing security, scale, and developer ergonomics.
• Define the team’s security approach: threat modeling, credential protection, session management, abuse mitigation, and risk signals.
• Set standards for code quality, testing, observability, and incident response; drive debt reduction and reliability improvements.
• Champion AI-first engineering practices and help the team adopt AI tooling effectively.
