Job summary

PEI Group in New York is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help build the next generation of our global infrastructure. This hands-on role will shape architecture and set engineering standards across regions and teams.

You will design, implement, and operate backend services at scale, collaborating with product and engineering leads to translate requirements into technical plans. Expect to stay hands-on across the stack using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python.
• Understanding of observability tooling.
• Strong communication: write clear specs and lead design discussions.
• Experience with TypeScript, Cloud Platform CWS, infrastructure-as-code and Headless CMS is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and infrastructure that scale globally.
• Shape system architecture across PEI Group's platforms and teams.
• Write clear specifications and drive work from spec to release.
• Translate business needs into well-scoped technical plans with leads.
• Raise engineering standards and practices across the team.
• Lead design discussions and explain trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers.
• Remain hands-on across the stack using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python.
• Improve reliability and observability of services.
