PEI Group in New York is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help build the next generation of our global infrastructure, spanning regions and teams. This hands-on role shapes architecture and drives engineering standards across the stack.

You will collaborate with product and engineering leads to translate business needs into technical plans, contribute across the stack using Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python, and improve observability and service reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python.
• Strong communication: write specs, lead design discussions, explain trade-offs to non-engineers.
• Experience with TypeScript, Cloud Platform CWS, infrastructure-as-code, spec-driven development, and Headless CMS is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and infrastructure that scale across PEI Group's global footprint.
• Shape system architecture for the next generation of PEI's global platforms and services, working across regions and teams.
• Write clear technical specifications up front and drive work from spec through implementation, testing, and release.
• Partner with product, platform, and engineering leads to translate business needs into well-scoped technical plans.
• Help set and raise engineering standards and best practices across the engineering team.
• Lead design discussions and explain technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay hands-on in the codebase, contributing across the stack using languages such as Node.js, TypeScript, NestJS, PHP, and Python.
• Improve the reliability and visibility of services through strong use of observability tooling.
