Job summary

R1 RCM Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer in Austin to lead engineering for AI-driven healthcare revenue platforms. You will influence roadmaps, set technical direction, and mentor engineers while delivering scalable systems.

You will collaborate with product and business stakeholders, design robust solutions, and champion best practices for maintainability, testability, and performance in a fast-growing healthcare tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a similar field.
• 10+ years of experience in software/data engineering.
• 5+ years in a thought leadership role.
• Experience with clinical data and claims lifecycle preferred.
• Strong knowledge of design patterns and big data concepts.
• Experience with Spark, Python, Scala, and Databricks.
• Experience with Epic, FHIR, and HL7.
• Extensive cloud experience (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Web services: XML, XSD, SOAP, JSON, REST.
• Modern software development: version control, testing, CI/CD.
• Healthcare tech experience and Agile.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Participate in roadmap definition with product and engineering leaders.
• Shape technology direction and strategic choices.
• Provide architectural recommendations optimizing maintainability and performance.
• Estimate epics, features, and stories with product and business stakeholders.
• Maintain automated build steps, CI systems, and staging environments.
• Demonstrate strategic thinking, teamwork, initiative.
• Mentor junior developers.
