Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead technical strategy and contribute hands-on coding across loyalty platforms in the cloud. You will collaborate with product managers, machine learning experts, and people leaders to define scalable solutions and drive innovation in a fast-paced environment.

You will mentor internal talent, evangelize best practices, and influence senior stakeholders while delivering high-quality software for complex, high-transaction systems.

Qualifications

• At least 7 years of experience in Software engineering including system design and regular code contributions.
• At least 7 years of experience in Back End technologies (Go, Java, Python, Database Design, etc.).
• At least 7 years of experience in Web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript and SPA frameworks).
• At least 7 years of experience creating and enforcing standards to ensure standardization and simplification of the overall platform.
• At least 7 years of experience leveraging modern cloud computing platforms effectively and efficiently (e.g. AWS).
• At least 7 years of experience in designing scalable microservice architectures that operate at scale in a complex environment.
• At least 1 year of experience using generative AI coding tools to enhance and augment our software development practices and capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Architect software and systems powering loyalty rewards and benefits capabilities.
• Ensure quality and engineering excellence across systems that process hundreds of thousands of orders per day.
• Lead by example by spending significant time writing code and contributing to code bases with our engineers.
• Leverage modern AI coding tools to augment software product delivery.
• Collaborate with business partners on scoping, defining, and building features for customers, including new product launches.
• Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain.
• Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions.
• Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation.
• Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability, observability, and operability.
• Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community.
• Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing time to maximize impact.
• Mentor engineers and recruit to grow the technical community.
• Influence senior stakeholders to allocate resources to important initiatives.
