Job summary

Root Inc. is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the AI Platform to guide the team building foundational infrastructure, set quarterly technical direction, coordinate dependencies, and coach engineers while staying close to the hands-on work.

You will drive delivery of shared services, tooling, deployment patterns, and operational practices, and align cross-team stakeholders to accelerate AI capabilities across Root’s products.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as a software engineer.
• 1+ years leading software teams or major technical initiatives.
• Experience delivering team-level technical work and defining roadmaps.
• Cloud infrastructure expertise, preferably AWS and Terraform.
• Designing secure, observable, reliable systems.
• Strong AI/LLM platform pattern knowledge and security implications.
• Strong cross-team collaboration and stakeholder alignment.
• Coaching mindset to grow teammates.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of shared services, tools, and deployment patterns.
• Set quarterly technical priorities balancing immediate needs and foundational work.
• Improve AI adoption with reliability, security, cost, and developer experience.
• Coordinate cross-team dependencies to avoid delivery delays.
• Develop reusable architecture and production operation patterns.
• Mentor engineers through design challenges and tradeoffs.
• Present progress, risks, and decisions to stakeholders.
