Thomson Reuters is seeking a Staff Software Engineer / Architect – AI to join the CoCounsel Forward Deployed Engineering team. You will work with customers to understand problems, design AI-powered solutions, and deploy them into production.

The role blends AI engineering, architecture, product development, and customer delivery. The ideal candidate is hands-on with experience in production AI/ML systems, architectures, and working directly with customers to solve complex enterprise challenges.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with production systems
• Hands-on software engineering and architecture experience
• Experience deploying production AI/ML or LLM-powered systems
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, agents, evaluation, MLOps/LLMOps, observability, and enterprise integrations
• Experience working with customers or stakeholders to identify problems and design solutions
• Strong knowledge of scalable APIs, services, distributed systems and production practices
• Ability to guide projects through discovery to deployment and production support
• Strong communication to explain complex tech to diverse audiences

Thomson Reuters is looking for a Staff Software Engineer / Architect – AI to join our CoCounsel Forward Deployed Engineering team.

This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering, architecture, product development, and customer delivery. You will work directly with customers to understand complex business and technical problems, design the right AI-powered solution, and help build and deploy that solution into production.

The ideal candidate is a highly hands-on AI engineer who can move comfortably between customer discovery, technical architecture, software development, and production delivery. You will contribute to reusable AI capabilities while also solving customer-specific challenges in complex enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand business and technical problems and translate them into scalable AI solutions.


• Architect, build, and deliver production-grade AI applications and services.


• Develop solutions leveraging LLMs, RAG, agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks, and enterprise integrations.


• Design secure, scalable architectures that integrate with customer-owned and Thomson Reuters infrastructure.

• Build reusable technical components, patterns, and frameworks that can support multiple customer engagements.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience designing and delivering production systems.


• Strong hands-on software engineering and architecture experience.


• Demonstrated experience building and deploying production AI/ML or LLM-powered systems.


• Experience with technologies and patterns such as LLMs, RAG, agents, evaluation, MLOps/LLMOps, observability, and enterprise integrations.


• Experience working directly with customers or business stakeholders to identify technical problems and develop solutions.


• Strong understanding of scalable APIs, services, distributed systems, cloud platforms, and production software engineering practices.


• Ability to operate across the full solution lifecycle: discovery → architecture → build → deployment → production support.


• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or customer-facing AI engineering.


• Experience working in tax, audit, insurance, financial services, legal technology, or other regulated industries.


• Experience working in enterprise SaaS, AI startups, or highly technical customer-facing engineering environments.


• Experience with security, compliance, governance, and auditability requirements for enterprise AI systems.


• Experience designing reusable platforms or frameworks across multiple customer implementations.


• Experience mentoring senior engineers or leading complex technical initiatives.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $137,100 USD - $254,700 USD. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
