Job summary

Fanatics Markets is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to own and shape the Markets platform across frontend and backend. You will drive architecture, lead complex initiatives, and mentor engineers while delivering high‑quality, scalable experiences for millions of events daily.

You will work with React, Next.js, TypeScript on the frontend or Go/Java/Python on the backend, collaborating across product, design, and infra to balance performance, security and reliability in an early‑stage product

Qualifications

• Substantial experience building and operating highly scalable production systems with leadership across teams.
• Deep expertise in either frontend web apps (JavaScript/TypeScript + React) or backend services (Go/Java/Python) with full-stack awareness.
• Proven track record delivering complex initiatives from vague requirements to measurable outcomes.
• Strong architectural judgment and ability to trade off system boundaries as scale changes.
• Experience shaping React architecture, Next.js, TanStack Query, Tailwind, Zustand, or backend with Postgres & Kafka/PubSub.
• Deep knowledge of primary language features, idioms, and best practices with cross-team influence.
• Strong focus on performance, reliability, security and accessible frontend or scalable backend.
• Experience defining API contracts and shaping CI/CD across services.
• Mentoring engineers, leading technical decisions, and improving team effectiveness.
• Proven use of AI tools (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot) to ship production code responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for major areas of the Markets platform and guide implementation across teams.
• Lead design and delivery of scalable systems and customer experiences in React/Next.js/TypeScript or Go/Java/Python.
• Resolve ambiguous engineering problems across team boundaries with clear proposals and plans.
• Own initiatives end-to-end from discovery to deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
• Collaborate with product, design, platform, and infra to balance UX, performance, security, and speed.
• Define architecture patterns for frontend, backend APIs, and event-driven systems.
• Shape experimentation capabilities, including feature flags and A/B testing.
• Anticipate scaling risks and drive pragmatic improvements to completion.
• Raise engineering standards via reviews, testing strategies, and observability.
• Mentor engineers and develop technical leaders across teams.
