Job summary

Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA is seeking a Staff Scientist in the Mravic Laboratory. You will lead interdisciplinary projects applying computational design and screening to modulate membrane protein structures and functions, with emphasis on membrane protein biochemistry, cell signaling, and cryo-EM.

The role involves coordinating with collaborators, mentoring lab members, and developing protocols for biophysical and cellular assays to advance therapeutic opportunities.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in an appropriate scientific discipline; minimum of 2 years postdoc.
• Strong track record of research productivity evidenced by publications and/or patents.
• Highly motivated, creative, and dedicated to project goals.
• Able to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and management teams.
• Contribute meaningfully to scientific discourse.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, analyze, interpret and troubleshoot experiments in cell biology, biochemistry, and structural biology.
• Maintain written reports and present results to research leadership.
• Train and mentor junior lab members in protocols and techniques.
• Communicate effectively with collaborators and supervisors to foster teamwork.
• Maintain high quality in research and presentation.
• Develop robust protein expression and purification workflows for synthetic and membrane proteins.
• Characterize biochemical and biophysical properties of candidate proteins and interactions with membrane proteins.
• Execute protein–protein interaction and signaling assays in cultured mammalian cells.
