Job summary

AlphaSense in the United States seeks a Staff Quality Engineer to own quality across Expert Research. You’ll set testing strategy, close gaps in critical workflows, and help teams ship faster with confidence without a dedicated QE team.

You’ll partner with developers on test planning, define release gates, test AI-powered features, and coach engineers on shift-left practices across multiple teams to raise overall quality and reliability of the platform.

Qualifications

• Hands-on E2E automation experience with Cypress or Playwright and willingness to pick up the other.
• Strong programming skills in at least one language (Ruby, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Kotlin, or Java).
• Excellent test design skills, including API testing and testing theory.
• Experience with unit and component testing frameworks (RSpec or Vitest).
• Track record of using AI tools to speed up software delivery and testing.
• Understanding of continuous delivery and release gating.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline setup and test management/observability tools.
• Ability to set direction independently without a QE team or manager.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term testing strategy for Expert Research based on Quality by Design and Automation by Default.
• Close test coverage gaps in mission-critical workflows like call scheduling, expert sourcing, compliance, transcripts, and client/expert portals.
• Build and grow scalable end-to-end automation across unit, API, and E2E layers.
• Collaborate with developers on test planning for new features to ensure automation is ready with code.
• Set and monitor quality metrics and release gates for teams to act on.
• Test AI-powered features (AI-led interviews and call synthesis) and validate outputs.
• Leverage AI tools to speed up test design and maintenance, and share practices with others.
• Coach engineers on shift-left and quality-by-design practices without direct authority.
