From fashion, beauty, and electronics to collectibles like trading cards, comic books, and even live plants, our live auctions have something for everyone.

And we’re just getting started! As one of the fastest-growing marketplaces, we’re looking for bold, forward-thinking problem solvers across all functional areas. Check out the latest Whatnot updates on our news and engineering blogs, and join us to turn your passion into a business and bring people together through commerce.

We are seeking a highly skilled staff-level product designer with a focus on enterprise design, e-commerce, and tooling to join our Product Design team. You will play a pivotal role with your deep understanding of all facets of the design process in reshaping our seller experience by optimizing workflows and developing solutions that enable sellers to succeed across the platform.

  1. Develop and execute design strategies aligned with the company's vision and objectives, focusing on enterprise-level solutions and complex workflows.
  2. Design tools that empower sellers to accomplish tasks more efficiently, automating repetitive processes and enhancing productivity.
  3. Advocate for a seller-centric design approach, conducting user research, usability testing, and gathering feedback to inform design decisions and ensure we build for seller efficiency.
  4. Create and iterate high-fidelity designs and prototypes that clearly communicate your concepts, ensuring consistency across the platform.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management and Engineering to analyze, optimize, and streamline complex workflows, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
  6. Provide mentorship and guidance to other designers, fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and growth within the team.
  7. Promote best practices in design, usability, and accessibility, proactively identifying areas for improvement and driving initiatives to elevate the design process.

Team members in this role should be within commuting distance of our hubs in New York, NY, San Francisco, CA, or Los Angeles, CA.

Curious about who thrives at Whatnot? We believe embodying a growth mindset and high-impact drive goes a long way here.

As our next Product Designer, you should have 10+ years of experience in product design, plus:

  • Proven experience focusing on enterprise solutions, e-commerce, tooling, and complex workflows.
  • An excellent portfolio showcasing your design skills, thought process, and impact.
  • Expertise in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • A deep understanding of user experience design principles and testing methodologies.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills to articulate your work clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

For US-based applicants: $205,000/year to $275,000/year + benefits + equity. The final salary depends on level, experience, skills, and expertise. This range covers base salary only, excluding benefits and equity.

Benefits

  • Work From Home Support
    • Home office setup allowance
    • Monthly allowance for cellphone and internet
  • Retirement: 401(k) with employer match up to 4% in the US, and international pension plans
  • Monthly allowance to dogfood the app
    • All Whatnots are encouraged to develop a deep understanding of our product by using Whatnot as both a buyer and a seller (our dogfooding budget makes this fun and easy!).
  • Parental Leave
    • 16 weeks of paid parental leave plus a one-month gradual return to work. Company leave allowances run concurrently with country-specific leave requirements.
