Job summary

Duolingo is seeking a Staff Designer to define and guide the user experience across monetization surfaces in our language app. You will lead the Monetization design team, shaping the roadmap and collaborating with engineers, PMs and designers to craft a cohesive, user-friendly experience.

You will influence the end-to-end purchase flow, seasonal events, and long-term design language, while ensuring high-quality work and strong communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the free and paid user experiences across Monetization surfaces within the Duolingo language app.

• Collaborate with designers and artists to extend the Duolingo design language.
• Handle both broad concepts and narrowly defined features in monetization work.
• Consider copy, animation and business impact across the experience.

About this role

This role reports to the Director of Product Design on Monetization. Monetization is the revenue engine that powers our company. Our teams focus on unlocking value for users through subscriptions, ads and in-app purchases. As a Staff Designer, you’ll play a key role in defining how users experience that value, from their first touchpoint to being long-term loyal users.

As a member of the Duolingo Design team, this role is an instrumental creative partner in key monetization vectors at Duolingo—from our delightful purchase flow to our seasonal avatar events. At Duolingo, we take pride in and agonize over crafting a user-friendly (and fun) experience for everyone.

• Define and evolve both the free and paid user experiences across Monetization surfaces within the Duolingo language app
• Play a leadership role on the Monetization design team in shaping our product roadmap and product development
• Partner with engineers and product managers to define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products
• Work collaboratively with designers and artists to build upon and expand the Duolingo design language
• Sometimes work on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical features
• Consider all parts when crafting the experience: from copy to animation to business impact

You have...

• An online portfolio with consumer mobile app or web design samples
• Design experience in a consumer application, product, or software role
• A desire to strive for excellence in your work until all details are attended to
• The ability to explain your work, process, and decisions and seek feedback to help you produce your best work

Outstanding candidates will have...

• Experience designing for fast-paced Monetization, Growth or subscription-based products
• Experience with strong experimentation culture and iterative improvements
• An interest in developing design talent and improving design craft
