LegalZoom is seeking a Staff Product Designer (internally referred to as an AI UX Designer) to solve end-to-end product problems and deliver production-ready prototypes and components for engineering to implement.

The role blends design judgment with front-end fluency in AI development tools, with emphasis on quality checks, instrumentation, and iteration based on real usage. You will mentor peers and shape AI-powered experiences in collaboration with product, engineering and brand partners.

Qualifications

• Strong design fundamentals evidenced by exploration of multiple approaches.
• Comfort designing from ambiguity and without a spec.
• Fluency with AI development tools such as Claude Code to build production-quality prototypes.
• Front-end implementation fluency and wiring components to real data vs static mocks.
• Git and GitHub workflow experience (branches, PRs, code review).
• Prompt and context scaffolding to keep AI output consistent.

Responsibilities

LegalZoom is seeking a Staff Product Designer (internally referred to as an AI UX Designer) to solve end-to-end product problems and deliver production-ready prototypes and components for engineering to implement. The role combines design judgment with build fluency using AI development tools, with an emphasis on quality checks, instrumentation, and iteration based on real usage.

Role Focus

Design frameworks that clarify ambiguous problem spaces and explore multiple alternatives before converging on a direction. Translate requirements into shipped experiences using AI development tools, including meaningful front-end implementation where it strengthens the customer outcome.

Responsibilities

• Develop frameworks that simplify ambiguous problem spaces and generate novel product directions through genuine exploration of alternatives.
• Build and ship functional prototypes at production quality, validating interactions using real data rather than static screens.
• Take features from requirements to a shipped experience using AI development tools, contributing directly to front-end implementation when it improves customer experience.
• Identify gaps in the design system and initiate new patterns by building and documenting components that integrate with the system’s architecture.
• Review CI/CD checks, visual regression, accessibility, and token audits before work reaches customers.
• Assess whether AI-generated or AI-assisted work preserves intended design and refine it yourself when needed.
• Instrument what you ship so real usage informs the next round of design, including performance signals and outcomes.
• Support cross-functional roadmap trade-offs, balancing speed and quality by compressing the build-test-learn loop while maintaining an evidence bar.
• Shape how AI-powered features calibrate user trust, including when to surface confidence, require confirmation, or present alternatives.
• Mentor peers and elevate the team’s craft bar beyond your own work.
• Set and raise the quality standards the team builds against.
• Align with product, engineering, and brand partners so what ships fits together across domains.

Requirements

• Strong design fundamentals, supported by evidence rather than instinct, with meaningful exploration of different approaches before converging.
• Comfort designing from ambiguity, including working without a spec and designing for systems before documentation exists.
• Fluency building with AI development tools such as Claude Code (or equivalent) to produce working, production-quality prototypes.
• Front-end implementation fluency, including judging when AI-generated code preserves design intent and ability to wire components to real data and APIs rather than static mocks.
• Git and GitHub workflow experience, including branches, pull requests, and code review as part of shipping.
• Prompt and context scaffolding to keep AI output consistent and minimize drift across a project.
• A track record of closing design system gaps, not only applying existing patterns.
• Clear communication and the ability to influence stakeholders who do not report to you.
• A strategic mindset connecting current decisions to broader product and team direction.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is USD 140,500 to USD 249,700 per year. Actual compensation offered depends on factors such as geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. An annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may also be provided.
