Job summary

Gemini is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to provide technical leadership for its internal engineering platform. You will build self-service systems, developer tools, and automation across cloud, networking, compute, storage, and CI/CD to improve reliability and developer productivity.

You will partner with engineering, security, data, and product leaders to translate operational needs into reliable platform products and drive adoption across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software or infrastructure engineering with production ownership.
• Strong software engineering ability in at least one language (Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust).
• Experience operating production infrastructure and distributed systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and IaC (Terraform).
• Experience with containers/orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Ability to design/operate CI/CD and automated delivery systems.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for platform capabilities across cloud, networking, compute, storage, and reliability.
• Lead architecture recommendations across the software lifecycle from design to production operation.
• Design, build, and maintain platform services, APIs, CLIs, and automation in Go, TypeScript, Python or similar.
• Create self-service capabilities for environment provisioning and service deployment.
• Improve observability, alerting, and capacity planning; implement SLOs and error budgets.
• Mentor engineers and drive platform engineering best practices across Gemini.
