Job summary

Gemini is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to act as a site reliability engineer for our data infrastructure. You will scale, automate, and operate a fleet of datastores (PostgreSQL, Aurora, NoSQL) with IaC, and drive observability and reliability across multiple database technologies in a cloud-native environment.

You will collaborate with data and product teams to ensure robust provisioning, performance, and uptime, deploying self-service tooling and guardrails while improving incident

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in the field.
• Relational databases: PostgreSQL/Amazon Aurora with replication and failover.
• SRE mindset with automation and self-service tooling.
• Experience with non-relational data stores in production.
• Cloud data platforms and services like AWS.
• Infrastructure as code (Terraform) and scripting (Python/Go).
• CI/CD, observability, SRE practices, and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Automation and Reliability Engineering: IaC, CLI tools, and CI/CD-driven automation for self-service provisioning.
• Database Scaling and Optimization: manage replication, failover, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
• Fleet-wide Infrastructure Design: extend tooling to non-relational datastores and guardrails.
• High Availability and Observability: define SLOs, build monitoring, and participate in on-call rotations.
• Pipeline Integration: collaborate with data/product teams for real-time and batch data flows.
• Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting: identify bottlenecks and improve MTTR.
• Toil Reduction and Operational Excellence: automate repetitive work and contribute to playbooks.
