Job summary

Gemini is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead the software and infrastructure that enables product engineering teams to build, deploy, and operate services at scale. The role blends hands-on software engineering with cross-team technical leadership to turn infrastructure and reliability work into durable, self-service platform products.

The mission is to make engineering faster, safer, and more scalable by replacing manual operations with clear defaults and automated tooling.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience in software or infrastructure engineering with production ownership.
• Strong software engineering ability in Go, Python, TypeScript, or Rust with durable services.
• Hands-on ops of distributed systems, failure diagnosis, capacity and reliability work.
• Practical experience with cloud providers and IaC tooling (Terraform or equivalent).
• Experience with containers/orchestration such as Kubernetes, Docker, and related tooling.
• Track record of setting direction, leading architecture across teams, without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and contribute to a long-term platform roadmap across cloud, compute, storage, and reliability.
• Lead architecture reviews and technical engagements across the SDLC from design to production.
• Design, build, and maintain platform services, APIs, CLIs, controllers, and automation.
• Create self-service capabilities for provisioning environments, deploying services, and managing infra.
• Improve CI/CD and automated software delivery for safer, faster deployments.
• Reduce operational toil, coordinate incident responses, and drive postmortems and improvements.
• Influence engineering standards via reviews, education, and mentorship.
