General Motors Company is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead the Cloud Platform initiative. The role spans GM's internal cloud platform, control plane, and runtime for workloads, with hands-on coding, architecture decisions, and driving platform reliability.

You will design self-service infrastructure, APIs, CLI tools, and MCP interfaces, while mentoring engineers and collaborating with SRE to meet ambitious SLOs.

Qualifications

• Ten+ years building and operating production infrastructure or platforms
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes in production at scale
• Strong Go software engineering skills, producing production code
• Experience designing internal developer platforms or cloud control planes
• Expertise with infrastructure as code and declarative provisioning (Terraform, Crossplane, or Kubernetes operators)
• Solid grounding in cloud networking and security, preferably Azure
• Track record of reliability improvements via SLOs, observability and blameless incident response
• Strong product sense for developer experience, including CLI, error messages and docs
• Clear written communication and ability to align diverse stakeholders
• Judgment to simplify and remove unnecessary complexity

Responsabilités

• Design and build core platform capabilities end to end
• Set technical direction for platform areas and write design docs
• Eliminate developer toil with code and automation
• Create golden paths for easiest shipping
• Use AI tooling as part of development and expose platform via APIs and MCP
• Collaborate with SRE on reliability and incident reviews
• Mentor senior engineers and review designs and code
• Work with application teams to remove platform obstacles
