Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design and run a global developer platform. You will drive API design, production operations and code automation to reduce toil while building reliable, scalable infrastructure.

The role emphasizes Go production code, declarative provisioning, and close collaboration with SRE and application teams. You will help create golden paths, expose platform capabilities via APIs and MCP, and mentor engineers across teams in a hybrid, large-scale

Qualifications

• Ten or more years building and operating production infrastructure or platforms with technical leadership.
• Deep, hands-on Kubernetes experience in production at scale, including upgrades and multi-tenancy.
• Strong Go production coding experience, not limited to configuration.
• Experience designing and running an internal developer platform, PaaS or cloud control plane.
• Expertise with infrastructure as code and declarative provisioning.
• Solid grounding in cloud networking, identity and security, preferably Azure.
• Track record of improving reliability with SLOs and observability.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core platform capabilities end to end, from API design through production operations.
• Set technical direction for platform areas and craft design documents.
• Eliminate developer toil and platform instability with code and automation.
• Create golden paths to make the recommended approach the easiest.
• Leverage AI tooling and expose platform usability to agents via APIs and MCP.
• Partner with SRE on reliability, on-call, and incident reviews with measurable SLOs.
• Mentor senior engineers, review designs and code, and uphold engineering standards.
• Collaborate with application teams to remove platform friction.
