Job summary

The New York Times is seeking a senior developer platform lead to guide the strategic direction of our shared software delivery platform. You will shape paved paths, improve code health, and raise delivery velocity across News, Cooking, Games, and Audio teams.

You will mentor engineers, implement scalable CI/CD workflows, and collaborate with product and engineering leaders to increase reliability and safety in deployment, as AI-assisted development expands across the organization.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience building the technical strategy and driving software delivery.
Experience building and scaling a platform as a product for internal engineers with multi-tenancy serving many teams.
Proficiency in one or more general-purpose languages (Go, Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Java).
Experience with containers, Kubernetes, Terraform or equivalent tools, and cloud services (AWS, GCP).
Familiar with GenAI-assisted developer tooling and safe agentic workflows.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical direction of software delivery as a shared product for product teams.
Set the technical direction for agent-ready delivery with guardrails and paved paths.
Collaborate with Product and engineering leaders to shape the delivery platform roadmap.
Deliver scalable, secure, observable delivery systems and improve reliability.
Champion engineering excellence in testing, deployment strategies, and observability.
Mentor engineers and contribute to an inclusive engineering culture.
