Job summary

The New York Times is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Web Platforms team to enhance the platform powering web and mobile app webviews. You’ll improve developer experience, performance, and resiliency using React, Node, TypeScript, and GraphQL, while collaborating across product teams.

You will report to the Engineering Manager Web Frameworks and contribute to platform tooling, documentation, and incident response with a commitment to journalistic independence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-stack web development with modern JS/TS
• Experience with React, Vite and GraphQL
• CI/CD and automation for developer workflows
• Experience designing, implementing, testing and documenting projects
• Experience with GenAI tooling and agentic workflows
• Experience leading complex initiatives

Responsibilities

• Develop platform for reliability, scalability and performance
• Promote high-quality releases for UX and web performance
• Collaborate to shape priorities and long-term roadmap
• Provide feedback via pairing, design reviews and code reviews
• Support on-call, incident response and troubleshooting
• Partner with teams on technical discussions and documentation
• Reinforce journalistic independence and mission alignment
