Staff Pathologist, HLA Laboratory Director

The Pathology Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is seeking a full-time academic Staff Pathologist, HLA Director, Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Laboratory. Recent fellowship graduates and mid- and senior histocompatibility directors (PhD, MD, MD/PhD) are strongly encouraged to apply.

As a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, BIDMC and the Department of Pathology, provide a clinically advanced and supportive academic environment for residents, fellows, and faculty. We're also proud and excited to be an integral part of the landmark collaboration among Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), and Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians (HMFP) to establish New England's only freestanding adult inpatient cancer hospital. The collaboration will provide unparalleled opportunities for Pathology and other physician specialties to be part of DFCI's internationally recognized cancer team.

The candidate will be appointed to the faculty of Harvard Medical School at an academic rank commensurate with experience (Instructor, Assistant Professor or Associate Professor). HMS appointment is commensurate with teaching responsibilities.

Interested candidates must have:
  • MD from an accredited medical school
    • Board-certified in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology
    • Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics Fellowship or Equivalent Training
    • A valid MA medical license or the ability to obtain one

OR

  • PhD from an accredited school
    • Doctoral training and relevant post-doctoral experience in histocompatibility and immunogenetics
  • Board certification or eligibility by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI), or equivalent board certification recognized for HLA laboratory direction.
  • Credentialing as an HLA Laboratory Director through the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), or equivalent HLA laboratory director credentialing.
    • Demonstrated experience in clinical histocompatibility and immunogenetics testing are required, including:
    • High-resolution HLA typing
    • HLA antibody screening and identification
    • Engraftment (chimerism) monitoring
    • Physical and virtual crossmatch testing and interpretation are required.
  • Expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and laboratory informatics is highly desirable
  • The successful candidate will help oversee a comprehensive, rapidly growing, state-of-the-art histocompatibility and immunogenetics laboratory supporting clinical programs in solid organ transplantation, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, transfusion support, and HLA disease association testing
  • In addition to sharing clinical and administrative service responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in our pathology training programs and to develop a strong program in translational and/or clinical research
  • Ability to collaboratively lead in a complex laboratory team-oriented environment is required

Pay Range

The base salary range for full-time employment for this position is $269,000 - $321,000 per year, not inclusive of incentive compensation or benefits.
