Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Staff Nurse for remote oncology call center triage. You will assess and triage telephone inquiries, coordinate nursing care, and document in the EMR to support patient management and post‑discharge follow‑up.

Ideal candidates have an Ohio RN license, oncology experience, and prefer OCN certification; strong computer and communication skills are essential. Occasional onsite shifts may be required; weekend/holiday hours apply.

Qualifications

• Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN‑accredited program.
• Current Ohio license or interim permit; 2 years of relevant care setting preferred.
• On-going: Maintains current Ohio RN license; demonstrates computer skills.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) preferred.
• Experience in telephone assessment and management – preferred.

Responsibilities

• Primary responder to manage telephone calls within the defined scope of practice; conduct initial call assessment and triage.
• Document the assessment and management in the EMR.
• Follow up and assist in resolving post‑discharge or post‑procedure calls that require intervention.
• Serve as clinical resource for James scheduling staff for referrals.
• Remote phone triage role servicing all oncology patients; on‑site shifts may be required.

Scope of Position

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and his/her family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model.

Minimum Qualifications

• For Hire: Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation
• Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required.
• Current Ohio license or interim permit. 2 years experience in relevant care setting preferred.
• On-going: Maintains current Ohio RN license. Meets mandatory educational and health requirements. Demonstrates
• computer skills required to meet job functions.
• Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN)- preferred
• Experience in telephone assessment and management – preferred

The James Clinical Call Center Triage RN is responsible to be the primary responder to manage telephone calls within the defined scope of practice as established by the Ohio Board of Registered Nursing for established James patients. The James Clinical Call Center Triage RN is responsible to complete an initial call assessment and then triage the call based on the assessment. The James Clinical Call Center Triage RN uses established triage algorithms to guide the assessment and interventions that need to be taken. The James Clinical Call Center Triage Nurse is responsible to document the assessment and management of the call into the organizational electronic medical record. The nurse will be responsible to follow up and assist in resolving post-discharge or post-procedure calls that require additional intervention after initial post-discharge/post-procedure call completed. They will also be the clinical resource for James scheduling staff for referral based needs.

This is a remote phone triage role servicing all types of oncology patients. Qualified candidates preferably have 5 or more years of oncology or triage experience.

Hours vary, but include weekend and holiday shifts.

Candidates should be located within 1.5 hours of our facility as nurses may need to come onsite to finish a shift if service is lost.
