Job summary

NPR seeks a Staff Product Designer to lead cross-functional design initiatives, guiding strategy from concept to pixel-perfect execution. You will shape mobile experiences, design systems, and accessibility-driven solutions for millions of listeners and NPR staff.

With 10+ years in product design and a strong background in HCI, you’ll mentor others, drive end-to-end discovery, and collaborate with researchers, PMs, and engineers to elevate NPR’s digital portfolio.

Qualifications

• 10+ years leading product design strategies and shipping scalable digital products across web and mobile.
• 2+ years as a Staff, Principal, or equivalent senior individual contributor.
• Native mobile design expertise (iOS & Android) with adaptive experiences and responsive layouts.
• Proven ability to design inclusive interfaces that meet WCAG and accessibility standards.
• Strong design thinking and agile methodologies integrated into delivery cycles.
• Experience prototyping from low to high fidelity for rapid validation.

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-organizational design strategy and product vision aligned with NPR’s mission.
• Lead end-to-end mobile product discovery from framing to launch.
• Oversee personalization efforts ensuring engaging, accessible experiences.
• Promote evidence-driven design with rapid experiments and measurable outcomes.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, and Editorial teams.
• Build and maintain scalable design systems across web and mobile.
• Mentor designers and facilitate workshops to solve complex problems.
• Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design across all projects.
