Job summary

NPR is seeking a Mobile Software Engineering Manager on the Audience Technology team to lead a collaborative group of mobile engineers building NPR's flagship apps. You will partner with Product, Design, Data, and Editorial to set priorities, architect features, and drive technical excellence.

This role emphasizes people leadership, recruiting, Agile delivery, code quality, and developer experience, with responsibility for production support and vendor coordination.

Qualifications

• 2+ years directly leading mobile engineers in agile teams.
• Experience shipping large-scale mobile apps for iOS/Android.
• Proficient with Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java.
• Hands-on with native release pipelines (App Store / Play Console).
• Experience with Git and cross-functional agile delivery.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Mobile Software Engineers.
• Drive talent acquisition and onboarding for engineering roles.
• Collaborate with product, design, data, and editorial teams.
• Own Agile planning, backlog grooming, and sprint execution.
• Oversee design/code reviews to maintain quality and security.
• Improve engineering workflows for faster delivery.
• Develop DX tools to reduce developer friction.
• Coordinate incident response for mobile production issues.
• Manage external vendors and contractors.
