Job summary

NPR is seeking a Software Architect to drive architecture across complex multi‑team initiatives, shaping data pipelines, platform services, and client applications. You will guide technical decisions balancing performance, velocity, privacy, and cost for NPR and its member stations.

The role involves leading cross‑functional engineering strategy, governance, and mentoring while integrating GDPR/CPRA compliance and scalable delivery pipelines across distributed systems and mobile platforms.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience leading architecture for multi-team environments.
• Native mobile architecture experience (iOS/Android) with Swift, Kotlin, Java, or Objective‑C.
• Experience designing high-traffic distributed systems, RESTful/GraphQL APIs, and client-server patterns.
• Experience architecting media playback, streaming protocols, CDN configurations, and cloud infra (AWS/GCP).
• Hands-on data privacy/compliance (GDPR/CPRA) and cloud cost optimization.
• CI/CD pipelines, Git and automated testing.

Responsibilities

• Architect unified mobile and cross‑platform systems across native codebases and cross‑platform integrations.
• Lead platform-to-client architecture for personalized content delivery across multi‑property networks.
• Evaluate custom builds vs vendor solutions; set architectural standards.
• Provide technical oversight across cross‑divisional roadmaps and OKR planning.
• Conduct architectural reviews focusing on security, workflows, and code quality.
• Incorporate privacy compliance and cost controls into cloud architectures.
