Job summary

Scale AI, Inc. is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Research Engineer to operate across AIS's technical needs, from training/fine-tuning models to evaluation and tooling, and to set AI/ML direction across AIS.

You will collaborate with ML and software engineers, product managers, and Forward Deployed Engineers to productionize research, drive automated data-driven improvements, and deliver robust AI capabilities for enterprise and government customers.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as an ML engineer or applied/research scientist, including direct experience training or fine-tuning models in production systems.
• Demonstrated ability to move across problem areas and productionize research with engineers.

Responsibilities

• Move across AIS's core problem areas as needed - training/fine-tuning, inference, memory and retrieval, evaluation and observability, orchestration.
• Research and prototype novel methods for agent performance improvement in a production setting with rigorous experiments.
• Build AI agents and internal tooling to reduce bottlenecks in AIS's processes and workflows.
• Partner with ML engineers, software engineers, product managers, customers, data annotators, and Forward Deployed Engineers to take work from idea to production.
• Set AI/ML technical direction and mentor senior engineers and scientists across teams.
