Job summary

Scale is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Research Engineer to drive production-grade agentic AI across AIS. You will work on training pipelines, evaluation systems, and architecture design, while setting technical direction for ML across teams.

You will mentor senior engineers and scientists, partnering with software, product, and Forward Deployed Engineers to translate enterprise requirements into robust ML capabilities. This role emphasizes hands-on coding and production delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an ML engineer or applied scientist, including production model training/fine-tuning.
• PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Broad fluency across the agentic ML stack with depth in at least one area.
• Ability to move across problem areas and push code to production when needed.
• Proven track record of partnering with engineers and guiding technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Move across core problem areas: training, inference, memory, evaluation, and tooling.
• Prototype novel methods for agent performance in production/enterprise settings.
• Build internal tooling to reduce bottlenecks in evaluation and experimentation.
• Collaborate with ML, software, product, and forward-deployed teams to ship solutions.
• Set AI/ML direction and mentor engineers across teams.
