Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff Engineer for the ML Platform to lead end-to-end architecture across large-scale ML systems. You will influence strategy, drive reliable and scalable ML infrastructure, and collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product teams, and leadership.

You will mentor engineers, define long-term technical direction for ML infrastructure, and advance the velocity of ML development across Stripe’s product lines.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience with service-oriented architecture and large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building and operating production ML platform across training, serving, orchestration, or ML data systems.
• Strong product instincts and ability to understand business context.
• Excellent communication and ability to influence multi-functional stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive autonomously in ambiguous environments.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate work.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of end-to-end architecture and system design for large, complex projects across ML Platform.
• Define technical direction for ambiguous projects and translate user needs into platform strategy.
• Design architectures for ML platform challenges including training, serving, orchestration, and real-time features.
• Turn high-leverage ideas into robust solutions shaping platform and product roadmaps.
• Lead large projects from requirements through design, implementation, and production operation.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, product teams to translate needs into scalable solutions.
• Arbitrate critical decisions balancing latency, reliability, cost, and security.
• Represent engineering, advise leadership on end-to-end ML lifecycle.
• Drive cross-team initiatives to improve ML development velocity and MLOps maturity.
• Mentor engineers and model as a role model for system design and operation.
