Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the ML Platform space in California. You will shape the long-term technical direction, own end-to-end ML infrastructure, and collaborate with product, data science, and platform teams to deliver scalable ML capabilities.

You will mentor engineers, drive multi-team initiatives, and ensure reliability, security, and low-latency models across Stripe's ML-driven products.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development or equivalent in distributed systems.
• Proven track record as a technical lead, guiding multi-team initiatives and mentoring.
• Experience building and operating production ML platforms (training, serving, orchestration).
• Strong product instincts and understanding of business context.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration with ML engineers, data scientists, product managers, and leaders.
• Ability to operate with high autonomy in ambiguous environments.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate work.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of end-to-end architecture and system design for large ML Platform projects.
• Define technical direction for ambiguous projects, translating user needs into platform strategy.
• Design architectures for ML training, serving, feature stores, and real-time inference.
• Turn ideas into robust solutions shaping platform and product roadmaps.
• Lead large projects from requirements through design, implementation, and production operations.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams to translate needs into scalable solutions.
• Arbitrate critical decisions balancing latency, reliability, cost, and security.
• Engage senior leaders and advise on end-to-end ML lifecycle considerations.
• Drive cross-team initiatives to improve ML velocity and MLOps maturity.
• Mentor engineers and model best practices across Stripe.
