Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical/Aerospace considered).
• 8+ years designing/building test equipment or electromechanical systems.
• 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers/technicians.
• Expert CAD with fabrication drawings and GD&T.
• Hands-on fabrication experience: welding, machining, 3D printing, assembly.
• Experience designing/integrating hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems.
• Working knowledge of PLC controls, NI DAQ/LabVIEW, instrumentation.
• Ability to own ambiguous problems end-to-end and deliver hardware.
• Experience improving engineering processes in a fast-paced environment.
• Eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of large-scale test capabilities from concept through fabrication and commissioning.
• Own mechanical design and CAD for custom test equipment with thermal/hydraulic subsystems.
• Produce fabrication-ready drawings and work with in-house machine shop.
• Perform fabrication tasks including laser cutting, welding, machining, and assembly.
• Lead a team of 2-5 engineers/technicians/interns and set technical direction.
• Triages capability requests, sets priorities, escalates to leadership as needed.
• Standardize ICD processes: intake, design reviews, build procedures, docs, handoff.
• Oversee PLC controls integration, LabVIEW/NI DAQ, instrumentation, enclosures.
• Lead build-vs-buy analyses and advocate for internal builds when favorable.
• Collaborate with ETC and product teams on feasibility, risk, and safety reviews.
• Drive safety culture in lab/build spaces and maintain equipment.
• Travel to test sites or remote labs as needed.
