Job summary

Intuitive in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Advanced Energy, to lead the design and development of novel energy-enabled medical devices. You will translate clinical needs into robust mechanical architectures, drive rapid prototyping, and mentor a cross-functional team through concept to verification.

Candidates should have 12+ years in R&D, strong leadership, and hands-on expertise with catheter/flexible instruments, CAD (SolidWorks), and medical device standards.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of relevant experience in R&D and product development.
• Technical lead experience in cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to translate clinical needs into robust mechanical architectures.
• Experience with rapid concept exploration, prototyping and design transfer.
• Hands-on in catheter and flexible instrument design is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical device standards (ISO 13485, ISO 14971) and FDA QSR.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and verify new concepts for advanced energy catheters/instruments.
• Define early product architecture and translate feasibility prototypes into scalable products.
• Document designs, procedures, test methods, BOMs and drawings with change control.
• Hands-on assembly/testing for proof of concept, development, pre-clinical and V&V.
• Investigate root causes of defects and guide design improvements.
• Collaborate with clinical engineering for tradeoff analyses and validation.
• Work with testing and NPI to define verification plans and design transfers.
• Engage with clinical teams for interviews to inform designs and clinical workflows.
• Set individual goals aligned with project objectives and drive quality outcomes.
