Job summary

Stripe is seeking a staff-level engineer for the IAM Control Plane to design, build, and maintain critical access systems that power Stripe products. You will own backend services defining permissions and access controls for large organizations.

You’ll join a team of ~10 engineers, working across API, databases, and frontend components while mentoring others and shaping product strategy and user experience.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience.
• High bar for engineering quality and scalable distributed systems.
• Experience designing, building, and operating backend services.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity with a product-minded approach.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go, Ruby, Java, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Design and build the next generation of IAM primitives to securely power AI-driven agentic experiences on Stripe.
• Develop new user-facing permission models, including custom roles and granular access controls.
• Architect and implement platform features like Account Groups to simplify access management for large organizations.
• Own and operate mission-critical, highly-available backend services that are fundamental to every Stripe user’s experience.
• Work across the stack to ship end-to-end features, from API design and database modeling to frontend components.
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes as well as mentor team members.
