Job summary

Super Micro Computer, a global leader in computing and networking, seeks a Staff Hardware Design Engineer to drive development of in-house server motherboards. You will collaborate with PM, ME, Thermal, BIOS teams to ensure robust designs and timely Bring-Up.

The role requires 12 years of x86 server motherboard experience, strong circuit design knowledge (digital, analog, power), excellent communication, and willing to work onsite in San Jose. In-office collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred; 12 years of experience with x86 server motherboards required.
  • In-depth knowledge of circuit design (digital, analog, power) and PCB layout.
  • Prior motherboard design experience in enterprise networking servers strongly desired.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-speed PCB circuits for Intel/ARM/AMD server platforms.
  • Design PCB circuits for high-bandwidth network switches and PCIe interfaces.
  • Perform circuit design using OrCAD; utilize Allegro for layout as needed.
  • Collaborate with PM/ME/Thermal/BIOS teams during spec discussions.
  • Debug circuits with digital test equipment and validate with cross-functional teams.
  • Transfer product designs to manufacturing with clear documentation.

We have an immediate need for a Staff Hardware Design Engineer to join our talented and bright design team. The candidate will play a key role in the development process of in-house server motherboards, by working collaboratively with cross-functional engineering team as well as outside partners to ensure the robust design of the boards. The candidate must be self-motivated and possess a strong will to do great things, with a result-driven mindset to develop the most competitive and endurance board products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Staff Hardware Design Engineer who is responsible for completing assigned projects from development through to end of life, including creating schematics, check layout,component survey, specifications and datasheet study, motherboard and system bring up, bug fix, customer issues analyze, even support colleague's projects.

Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):

  • Designing high speed PCB circuit of Intel/ARM/AMD servers.
  • Designing high speed PCB circuit of high-bandwidth network switching products and PCIe interfaces.
  • Performing all the circuit design by using OrCAD tool.
  • Knowing the layout tool Allegro and being able to utilize the tool.
  • Be able to join the project spec discussions with PM/ ME/ Thermal and BIOS teams.
  • Need to debug the circuit with digital scope.
  • Need to co-work with validation/ BIOS/ firmware/ software team to solve the issues
  • Co-work with validation engineers to solve the issues
  • Ensure product conforms to engineering specifications, and regulatory and customer performance expectations.
  • Transfer products to manufacturing with clear documentation and help C.M. and technical support to solve problems.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is preferred. Master's degree is strongly desirable
  • Minimum 12 years of experience working with x86 server mother boards is a necessity
  • In-depth knowledge of circuit design (digital, analog, power) and PCB layout
  • Prior experiences with motherboard design in enterprise networking servers are strongly desired
  • Strong communication, written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Must have the ability to cowork closely with cross functional teams effectively
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving capability
  • Self-motivated, team player with ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Please note that this position requires regular in-office attendance. The successful candidate is expected to be present in the office during standard working hours as determined by the company. In-office collaboration and participation in team meetings, training sessions, and other on-site activities are essential aspects of this role. Candidates should consider the commuting distance and be prepared to fulfill their responsibilities in the designated office location.

Salary Range

$175,000 - $210,000

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
