Job summary

Kleinfelder’s Design team in San Jose, CA is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing office. The position combines in-office and field work with opportunities for travel within southern California.

The successful candidate will perform field geotechnical drilling, rock coring, calculations, and reporting, coordinating permitting and drilling across projects. Collaboration with geotechnical, environmental, and construction teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological engineering, or Master's degree.
• 3 to 6 years of geotechnical related experience with a bachelor’s degree - 2 years with a Master’s or Engineer-In-Training certification.
• Engineer-In-Training certification required with the drive and ability to obtain California PE in next few years.
• Must have a positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks.
• Ability to travel throughout southern California and safely perform field work; travel outside is a plus.
• Clean driving record and the ability to pass a drug test.
• Willing to work beyond a 40-hour week when needed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and oversee field investigations.
• Understand local geologic conditions.
• Perform geotechnical analyses including slopes, seismic, foundations, and pavement.
• Utilize geotechnical software such as Slope/W, SLIDE, SHAFT, LPILE, APILE, and Settle3.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and proposals.
• Conduct field observations such as pile installation and earthworks.
• Support senior engineers and project managers with project duties.
• Coordinate field drilling and reporting.
