Job summary

ALLWEST is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer in the Pacific Northwest to join our employee-owned team. The role blends field exploration, data analysis, and collaboration with project teams to support foundations, slopes, seismic considerations, and construction.

You will perform subsurface investigations, collect and interpret data, prepare calculations and reports, and observe field construction while travel is required within the region and beyond.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Civil or Geological Engineering.
• Minimum of two years geotechnical engineering or related experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with internal teams, clients, and project partners.
• Ability and willingness to travel for project needs, including occasional overnight stays.

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. This position is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys a combination of fieldwork, technical problem-solving, construction involvement, and collaboration with project teams.

What You’ll Do

• Support geotechnical engineering projects from field exploration through design and construction.
• Perform and document subsurface investigations, including drilling and test pit activities.
• Collect, evaluate, and interpret field and laboratory data.
• Assist with geotechnical analyses for foundations, slopes, seismic conditions, and other project needs.
• Prepare technical documentation, calculations, and engineering reports.
• Provide field support and observation during construction.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, clients, contractors, and other project team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program
• Minimum of two years of geotechnical engineering or related experience
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain EIT certification within six months of hire
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with internal teams, clients, and project partners
• Ability to adapt to changing field conditions and project requirements
• Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a vehicle in varying weather conditions
• Ability and willingness to travel as project needs require, including occasional overnight or extended travel of approximately one week
• Travel is primarily within the greater Tri-Cities region, with occasional travel to other ALLWEST locations throughout Idaho, Montana, and Washington

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility
• Experience performing subsurface field explorations, including drilling methods, test pit excavations, and geophysical methods
• Experience installing or monitoring geotechnical instrumentation, including inclinometers and piezometers
• Experience or education using geotechnical analysis software for field data reduction, slope stability, foundation design, seismic analysis, or related applications
• Experience supporting or overseeing geotechnical aspects of construction projects
