Job summary

Verkada Inc. in San Mateo, CA is seeking a founding Staff Engineer to lead the Spatial Platform’s architecture. You’ll build a high-performance 3D engine and scalable infrastructure powering 8+ product lines, tackling geospatial math and real-time rendering at 60 FPS.

You’ll own the client-side CRDT sync, latency optimization, and collaboration features, working with design and product to ship production-grade experiences with pixel-level polish.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building complex, customer-facing web apps or high-performance graphics engines.
• CS degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong eye for pixel-level polish and low-latency UX.
• Ability to bridge CAD-level precision with consumer UX in collaboration with Design.
• Understanding of coordinate systems, geospatial projections and 3D geometry.

Responsibilities

• Design a high-performance rendering architecture for interactive spatial visualization.
• Define interaction model for spatial editing with pixel-level polish.
• Optimize latency with partial GPU updates and custom shaders for sub-millisecond latency.
• Develop tools for real-time 3D analysis and AI-driven placement suggestions.
• Own client-side CRDT-like sync architecture for offline-first multi-user editing.
