Job summary

Compass is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Transaction Journey organization in New York. You will lead frontend architecture and build a collaborative platform enabling efficient real estate transactions for agents, buyers, and sellers.

You will drive scalable, well-tested code, collaborate with product and design teams, and mentor engineers to raise the bar across the platform. You will define reliability KPIs, own complex projects, and champion modern patterns including AI

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of experience developing comprehensive, well-tested, and high-performance software applications in TypeScript, Javascript, and HTML/CSS.
• 5+ years of experience with React and NodeJS.
• 3+ years of experience using AWS / cloud technologies.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and ownership of platform architecture, data ingestion and normalization, to deliver an industry leading search experience at scale.
• Independently define and lead the delivery of complex technical projects across the entire stack.
• Champion a culture of operational excellence by defining reliability KPIs and leading architectural improvements that reduce technical debt and infra costs.
• Adopt and operationalize modern software patterns, including AI, data pipelines, and telemetry systems to automate workflows.
• Operate in a scalable engineering culture with AI-assisted workflows, decoupled systems, and automated CI/CD/testing/monitoring.
• Inspire, recruit, and mentor fellow engineers.
