Job summary

Vantage is seeking a Staff Engineer to drive technical strategy across multiple teams while remaining hands-on in code and architecture. You will shape the roadmap, ensure alignment, and remove cross-team blockers as you lead significant initiatives.

In this role you will mentor senior engineers, design scalable API integrations, and balance delivery with long-term system health. This remote-first position supports North America-based teams and emphasizes strong engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of professional software development, testing, design and architecture.
• Deep knowledge of a full production stack: frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data.
• Owning a multi-quarter technical roadmap spanning multiple teams with leadership buy-in.
• Experience managing technical debt as a program of work and landing it in roadmaps.
• Experience designing and operating B2B API integrations: auth, rate limiting, retries, idempotency, versioning, contracts.
• Mentoring senior engineers through architectural thinking and reviews.
• Experience with CI tooling, Docker, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Evaluating developer tooling, including AI-assisted tools, with data handling considerations.
• Deep Python and Django experience building production services.
• A degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of multiple significant initiatives in parallel, staying hands-on.
• Provide technical direction balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.
• Own technical debt management and prioritize it with leadership and Product.
• Run Architecture Office Hours, Lunch and Learns, and internal talks to align teams.
• Mentor engineers across the department and create growth opportunities for others.
• Act as a quality gatekeeper through code reviews and testing strategy.
