Job description

About The Company

GROPYUS is a technology-based construction company focused on building multi-story residential buildings. Thanks to its prefabricated building system with various design options, industrial offsite construction, and fully digitalized processes, the company manufactures aspirational, sustainable, and affordable homes using timber construction methods. GROPYUS is using scalable construction and manufacturing solutions to tap into a future market, boost Europe's strength in innovation, while also playing a substantial role in improving sustainability.

About the Role

You will be part of a highly collaborative product team working at the core of our manufacturing facility, transforming digital models into physical elements at scale. Product Teams at GROPYUS own what they build, including the underlying infrastructure, build pipelines, automated testing, release and rollout management, monitoring, and support. You will be trusted to solve problems efficiently and effectively, building on top of a solid architecture and operational foundation, and will be encouraged to seek out under-attended topics and assume responsibility for them both within your product area and across product areas.

As a Staff Engineer, you have an impact across multiple teams within your product area. Staff Engineers effectively collaborate with other Staff Engineers and foster a culture of regular exchange and cooperation. Their ability to communicate effectively and take initiative ensures that they not only contribute to the technical success of projects, but also help drive overall growth and innovation within the company by sharing both best practices and failures, and learning from them. With your focus on and experience in SRE / operating large systems, you will drive and spearhead operational excellence within your product area.

What you'll be doing

As a Staff Engineer (f/m/d) on the Production Platform team, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and building the software at the core of our manufacturing and owning the integrations that connect it to physical machines and vendor systems

  • Leading technical initiatives that ensure software systems are reliable, maintainable, and operationally sound, especially in logistics- and manufacturing-heavy domains

  • Working in a hybrid infrastructure environment (cloud and on-prem), managing complex software deployments at scale

  • Bringing a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) mindset to monitor, maintain, and improve software uptime, including reliable updates, latency, and efficiency

  • Acting as a bridge between digital product delivery and physical logistics and manufacturing systems, including assessing vendors for integration fitness, owning buy-vs-build decisions, and negotiating API changes with machine and equipment vendors toward usable, maintainable interfaces

  • Mentoring engineers across multiple teams and improving system-wide architecture, a maintainable and sound codebase, and operational excellence incl. incident handling

  • Helping define, monitor, and evolve SLAs/SLOs as well as other important KPIs like e.g. OEE for critical systems

What you bring

  • You are an experienced software engineer with a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering or operations

  • You possess practical experience in all key areas of modern software development, including infrastructure, observability, testing, deployment pipelines incl. quality assurance, and scaling

  • You've operated and supported large-scale software systems in cloud and non-cloud environments (on-premise)

  • You've worked in companies with strong operational cultures, ideally in logistics or manufacturing — understanding the commercial impact of system downtime

  • You're comfortable owning integrations with external systems, and can shape and negotiate vendor or machine APIs toward maintainable, scalable interfaces rather than working around whatever you're handed

  • You have experience mentoring and guiding engineers at various levels

  • You're proficient with most of the following technologies:

    • Kotlin / SpringBoot

    • Kubernetes

    • Linux

    • PostgreSQL

    • TimeFold / Camunda / BPMN / Optimization

    • Python / Bash is a plus

    • OPC-UA / PLC / SPS is a plus

  • You bring Cloud Operations experience

    • Experience with Azure is a bonus

  • You're familiar with monitoring and alerting practices for production systems

  • Experience with defining and working with SLAs/SLOs is a bonus

  • You are willing to travel within Germany for in-person team events as well as visiting our manufacturing location
