Job Summary:
As a part of EH&E’s Commissioning, Engineering & Energy team, a Staff Engineer I will contribute to various project teams focused on energy and emissions optimization, commissioning, retro-commissioning, data collection and analysis, forensic engineering, and decarbonization of the built environment. Our staff are subject matter experts that help clients meet their energy and emissions goals, restore or improve performance of their buildings, and make timely, strategic decisions about their facilities and their organizations. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to learn quickly, proactively, and independently, leveraging colleagues and available resources to get up to speed on existing service offerings and to ultimately help improve and expand EH&E’s capabilities.
A typical day might include data collection or equipment inspection in the field, as well as data analysis or reporting in the office. This position reports to a senior staff member in commissioning, engineering, and energy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Data Collection
- Collects facility, system, equipment, and resource data both in the field at client sites and virtually from electronic documents.
- Reviews, digests, and uses information from industry sources such as project contract documents, construction drawings, building and energy codes, engineering handbooks, climate data repositories, life cycle databases, manufacturer performance specifications, research papers, and other published works.
- Displays organization, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a curiosity about concepts that are unique or new to them.
- Interfaces with clients and colleagues in a positive, professional, and respectful manner.
- Keeps current on industry news, such as code updates, technology, legislation, and client markets.
Data Analysis
- Tasked with organizing and leading an effort(s) to process collected data using existing tools and templates.
- Documents assumptions, data sources, and judgments to facilitate quality control and support future data update management.
- Learns and adapts to new analysis platforms, including modeling software, spreadsheet and database software, and scripting/code development platforms. May support identification, development, and/or vetting of analysis.
Communication
- Supports meetings and/or presentations with internal and external stakeholders.
- The successful candidate will work to grow into a consultant and subject matter expert who can share their opinion with a wide range of stakeholders in a thoughtful and articulate manner.
- Communicates clearly in writing to colleagues, clients, and partners. Supports writing of memos, reports, proposals, and other written communications for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:
- BS degree in Construction Management, Mechanical/Facilities, Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 3+ years of experience required.
- Construction or engineering fields preferred.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or PE is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Flexibility to work in the field with clients and contractors, working with your hands in a limited capacity, while also being suited to work in an office to analyze data and write reports.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Exposure to databases and programming are preferred.
- Experience with reading and understanding construction drawings, equipment specifications, engineering data, and technical reports is preferred.
- Experience with Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing (MEP) system performance, testing, and troubleshooting is preferred.
- Willingness to adjust to changing project needs, which can include travel and off-hours work.
