Job summary

Ladders is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience to define the technical direction and architecture for developer tooling across multiple teams. This remote US‑based role focuses on removing friction in developer workflows and improving adoption of internal tools, while influencing architecture and driving platform initiatives.

The role requires 8+ years of software engineering, strong leadership, and hands‑on experience with modern languages and AI‑assisted development tools.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in at least one general‑purpose language (e.g., Kotlin, Java, Go, TypeScript).
• Strong experience with build systems and dependency management at scale (Gradle, Maven, npm).
• Proven track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Experience designing developer‑facing products with usability and adoption focus.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted development tools and practices.
• Strong communication skills for writing technical docs and influencing teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and architecture for developer experience areas.
• Oversee architecture of testing frameworks and core libraries for web services.
• Design, build, and ship key parts of the platform hands‑on.
• Collaborate with Product to identify and prioritize developer workflow friction points.
• Design self‑service paths for product teams to create services with minimal friction.
• Drive technical alignment with partner teams for a cohesive developer experience.
• Mentor and elevate team members through design reviews and code‑pairing.
