Job summary

Buildkite is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead Developer Experience, building AI-led loops that boost productivity for around 80 engineers. You’ll own end-to-end developer experience across CI, build tooling, and deployment paths, while guiding the organization to double R&D output per engineer.

You’ll ship hands-on changes, contribute across languages, and drive adoption of agentic coding tools, shaping how engineers work and ship at scale.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background with production experience.
• Experience in platform engineering or AI-enabled developer tooling.
• Track record of making engineering teams measurably faster.
• Exposure to large-scale systems and diverse tech stacks.
• Fluency with agentic coding tools and judicious use of AI tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end developer experience for ~80 engineers, including CI, build tooling, and deployment paths.
• Lead the initiative to double R&D output per engineer with measurable metrics.
• Ship hands-on, contribute PRs across languages and services.
• Build credibility and relationships to align the engineering organization.
• Evaluate and roll out agentic coding tools, raising the bar for quality.
