Job summary

Stripe seeks a Staff engineer to own the foundation of Stripe's compute fleet. You will shape the base operating system, image pipelines, and host configuration that power services across regions, ensuring reliability and security by default.

You will lead architectural transformations, drive end-to-end host lifecycle ownership from image construction to workload readiness, and implement validation, canarying, rollout, health evaluation, and rollback strategies.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production infrastructure systems at scale.
• Proven ability to lead large, ambiguous infrastructure projects end-to-end.
• Deep expertise in Linux boot, initialization, networking, and storage.
• Experience operating fleet-scale image and host-management systems.
• Experience with safe rollout practices including canarying and rollback.
• Strong reliability and incident response background.
• Ability to set technical direction across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead large, ambiguous infra projects from design through production.
• Set tech direction for host infra and image workflows; decide containerization vs. host-based approaches.
• Design safe, observable change processes with validation, staged rollout, and rollback capabilities.
• Lead incident response; reduce toil and improve reliability and maintainability.
• Partner with security, compliance, and service teams to align on direction.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise design quality through hands-on coding and reviews.
