Job summary

Stripe is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead ML Platform initiatives across training, serving, and feature computation. You will shape system architectures, drive end-to-end delivery, and mentor engineers. The role emphasizes reliability, security, and low-latency design across Stripe's ML-driven products.

You will collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, product teams, and leadership to advance ML velocity and MLOps maturity while operating in a highly autonomous environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, with service-oriented architecture and large-scale distributed systems.
• Track record as a technical lead, guiding multi-team initiatives and mentoring others.
• Experience building/operating production ML platforms (training, serving, orchestration, data systems).
• Strong product instincts and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with ML engineers, data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of end-to-end architecture for large ML Platform projects.
• Define technical direction for ambiguous projects and translate user needs into platform strategy.
• Design architectures for ML workflow orchestration, scalable compute, model training, inference, and real-time monitoring.
• Translate ideas into robust solutions shaping platform and product roadmaps.
• Lead large projects from requirements through design, implementation, and production operation.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Arbitrate decisions balancing latency, reliability, cost, and security constraints.
• Engage leadership on key technical considerations across the ML lifecycle.
• Drive cross-team initiatives to improve ML development velocity and MLOps maturity.
• Mentor and grow engineers, modeling best practices in software systems.
