Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Engineer (5B) to lead the architectural evolution of Core Infrastructure, focusing on cloud-native, secure, and scalable backend systems. You will own roadmaps, drive efficiency at scale, and guide multi-cloud strategies across on-prem and public clouds.

Qualifications

8+ years of full-time software engineering work experience (incl. PhD research or equivalent).
Expertise in Go, Java, or C++.
Distributed systems mastery for large-scale, high-availability infrastructure services.
Proven execution excellence in leading multi-quarter technical initiatives from design to rollout.

Responsibilities

Lead architectural evolution across compute and networking stacks from ideation to global rollout.
Drive fleet-wide efficiency and cost optimization, expanding ARM adoption.
Modernize for multi-cloud resilience with active-active deployments and rapid regional failover.
Integrate AIOps and automation to significantly reduce alert triage and incident response.
Champion security-by-design with 100% service-to-service authorization and zero-trust networking.
Collaborate with Storage, Data, and Product teams to scale infrastructure for large ML models.
Mentor and scale 5A and mid-level engineers to promote operational excellence.
