Job summary

Uber seeks a Senior Staff Engineer (L6) to own the technical roadmap for Uber’s Core Infrastructure Platform, including Compute, Foundations and Software Networking, across a multi-cloud footprint.

You will drive Platform Engineering 2.0, mentor Staff+ engineers, and partner with Delivery, Rides and AV teams to turn infrastructure into a competitive advantage while solving hard problems at massive scale. This role is based in Seattle with in-office presence required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience in massive-scale distributed systems.
• Experience managing infrastructure that supports millions of concurrent users or petabyte-scale data processing.
• Deep systems expertise in Kubernetes, container runtimes, and the Linux kernel.
• Cloud-native networking experience with Envoy, CNI, multi-cloud (AWS/GCP).
• Proficient in Go, Java, or C++.
• Ability to lead 40+ person initiatives and influence leadership on infrastructure investment.

Responsibilities

• Architect Strategic Efficiency: own the technical vision to drive fleet-wide CPU utilization and unit-cost optimization through ARM adoption and silicon diversity.
• Scale AI & ML Infrastructure: define architecture for shared GPU pools and high-performance clusters to support larger ranking models and data ingestion.
• Modernize the Data Plane: converge Uber’s networking stack toward Kubernetes/Envoy/CNI with SkyEdge multi-cloud resilience.
• Enforce Foundations & Reliability: lead safe deployment and zero-trust authorization initiatives.
• Agentic Augmentation: integrate AI-driven automation to reduce alerts and boost developer productivity.
• Cross-Org Influence: partner with Delivery, Rides, and AV teams to make infrastructure a competitive advantage.
• Mentor Staff+ Engineers: coach leaders and influence company-wide engineering standards.
