Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer in Santa Clara, CA, to own the software factory from commit to production with security baked in at every stage. You will set the roadmap, write pipeline code, and manage CI/CD, release governance, and dependencies in a hybrid cloud/on-prem environment.

You will mentor engineers, build self-service developer platforms, and ensure automated, auditable deployment across cloud and on-premises systems while maintaining strong security standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years production engineering experience with hands-on work.
• Hands-on experience building and operating CI/CD platforms at scale.
• Security embedded into pipelines and automated vulnerability closure.
• Infrastructure-as-Code authored and tested with production modules.
• Ownership of release, dependency, or vulnerability-management outcomes.
• Scripting and automation with a bias to remove manual toil.

Responsibilities

• Set the software factory direction and roadmap for build/test/release.
• Embed scanning and policy enforcement into every pipeline stage.
• Own the release train, environment promotion, and expedited hotfixes.
• Automate dependency updates, SBOMs, and provenance checks.
• Build internal developer platform and self-service capabilities.
• Write and test production IaC modules and guardrails.
• Operate security and compliance through vulnerability management.
• Scale the team through mentoring and architectural consensus.
