Job summary

Otter in San Francisco is seeking a Staff Designer to tackle the biggest, most ambiguous problems. You won't be handed a brief; you'll identify what to solve, make a case for it, and lead it from rough idea to shipped product that feels unmistakably Otter.

You will own cross-team initiatives, raise the bar on brand and craft, mentor designers, and push surfaces toward a cohesive, human experience. Enterprise or B2B experience is a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Track record of finding the right problem to solve, not just solving the one given.
• Experience shipping work from ambiguity with no clear brief or owner.
• Strong eye for brand, craft, and visual polish.

Responsibilities

• Spot the P0 problems and justify their importance.
• Turn vague direction into a concrete plan and rally teams to build it.
• Own cross-team initiatives beyond a single roadmap or pod.
• Raise the bar on Otter’s surface quality and coherence.
• Mentor designers through collaboration rather than direct reports.
• Contribute to a setup where work is seen and felt as Otter.
